From Rookie of the Year to MPO Lead Card: Gannon Buhr is Making Moves

Buhr Tied with Heimburg Through 2 Rounds at LVC

Exciting young star sponsored by Prodigy Discs has definitely made waves in the first two round at the Las Vegas challenge with a -10 par in round one that put him on lead card on day two following it up with a -9 par round to get into a tie for the lead.

While neither of these rounds were the hot round of their respective days of competition Buhr has done something so far to only be matched by Heimburg, consistent low scores.

The two players who had the hot rounds on days one and two have played well but because of their inability, so far, to remain scoring at a top level they aren't leading the tournament. Chris Dickerson, who lead the tournament with an -11 after round one, couldn't seem to follow it up in round two only shooting a -6 which may seem like a decent round but with many of the top players shooting double digits under par on day 2 has fallen off lead card to be alone in 5th place. Drew Gibson, had the opposite problem through the first two days of competition, getting of the a slow start of -5 par on day one, came surging back with a -13 on day two.

The last time we saw Gannon Buhr on lead card, he struggled to be able to perform at a high level, granted he was a rookie playing on his first ever lead card. Seeing him step up in a big way yesterday makes me believe he might be ready to take that next big step into becoming one of the top guys on tour.

He has the arm strength to compete at the highest level, he's shown that time and time again, he can throw every shot you ask him to. What he needs to prove this week is that he can do it consistently, in high pressure situations. Days three and four will be a big test to see if he can do just that and some of the top pros are right there with him:

  • Calvin Heimburg has played well so far this event, tied for the lead with Buhr.
  • Drew Gibson is one back and is putting well, coming off of a hot round.
  • Chris Dickerson only 2 back and is one of the more consistently great players in the field who also has won a major(USDGC).
  • Kevin Jones and Eagle McMahon are 3 back, have played well and have the distance and accuracy to push for lead, McMahon being last years champion at this event.
  • And lastly Ricky Wysocki is 4 back won player of the year last year and has a history of starting the season hot, this year with his new sponsor Dynamic Discs

Although he is tied for the lead, we are only to the half-way point in this event and with the players at or near the top there is no way we can count anyone out. The next two rounds will for sure be a test for the young and extremely talented Gannon Buhr to see where he stacks up against the best in the world.
