Brady VS. Manning 2.0
Brady VS Manning 2.0
Not to be dramatic… but, this game went down as one of the most iconic and electrifying QB duals in playoff History. Top-tier quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes did not disappoint in the slightest in one of the most highly anticipated games of this season. The stage was set… Two MVP candidates, weapons headlining both offenses, who will light up the scoreboard more? Who will stay alive and host the AFC Championship game next week?
Both QBs played brilliantly in their previous matchups, only building the anticipation even greater. Allen throwing more touchdowns than incompletions and Mahomes throwing for 5 touchdowns. So, in order to win this game, good won’t be enough, pretty good still might not be enough at this time of the year, something miraculous was needed to pull off the victory. Was this the game of the year?
The opening drive of the game Buffalo converted two fourth downs which led to them getting 6 on a 4th and goal from the 1 yard line. Bills strike first. To no surprise, Chiefs strike back immediately. Mahomes strolls the offense down the field and runs one in himself, to start the scoring parade. The next two possessions for the Bills ended in punts which was not a usual occurrence, the Bills haven’t punted since the playoffs have started. The Chiefs punted back, the teams continued to trade punts, jabs, and punches for a captivating first half of football. The half ended with a Butker boink off the right upright and a score of 14-14, because of course it is.
And if you were expecting a Gabriel Davis masterclass, you’re lying. The second half was pretty back and forth, we saw a jet sweep score, a 75-yard bomb, and the biggest lead of the game, the Chiefs go up 9.
Here’s where it gets really fun. Buffalo gets the ball, just under 9 minutes on the clock, they’re down 26-21… No pressure! Allen is doing it all – working the ball downfield, running over defensive backs and making plays all over the field – to will his team to a victory in Arrowhead. As time is flying off of the clock, Josh Allen and the Bills are faced with a 4th and 4 on the KC 30 yard line and they decide to go for it… the most critical play of the game, the most critical play of the Bills season. Allen takes the snap in the shotgun and is immediately forced out the pocket. He shakes and bakes three defenders getting them to go the other way and bullies his way for a first down! All is good… right?! Wrong. Moments later, the Bills are faced with yet another 4th down; however, this time it’s a 4th and 13 from the 27 yard line, no way they pick this up right?! Wrong. Striding in quarantine in the end zone is Gabriel Davis with a defender not within ten yards of him. Bills take the lead but you can just tell this game is far from over.
1:54 on the clock, 29-26. Enough time for the Chiefs? Come on…. It’s the Chiefs… Mahomes gets the ball back and quickly scores again off a strike from Mahomes to the human cheetah Tyreek Hill who scampers 64 yards past the defenders giving his well-known peace sign to the Bills defensive backs as he scores to put the Chiefs right back up 33-29. So now Josh Allen has 62 seconds to score (But we said this might be the game of the year remember). Josh Allen leads an impeccable drive as he hits Gabriel Davis deep over the middle for a big gain to get the drive started off and ends up throwing another dart to Davis in the end zone for his 4th receiving touchdown of the game (masterclass) with only 13 seconds on the clock for the Chiefs
Buffalo kicks it deep and the ball goes out of the back of the end zone. Interesting decision to not squib, but it’s only 13 seconds it shouldn’t matter right?! Yeah yet again, wrong.
Mahomes, Hill, and Kelce get the Chiefs from their own 25 into field goal range in 10 seconds… Arrowhead is shaking. I’ll save the dramatics (for now) but the field goal is good and the game goes to overtime at 36-36, because of course it does.
Overtime in Arrowhead… Chiefs win the coin toss, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they win the game! Yeah I’m lying yes it does. The OT rule needs to be changed, but that’s a different story for a different day. Chiefs looked extremely sharp on their overtime drive and Mahomes drops a dime to Kelce on the side of the end zone and the game of the year comes to an end. The Kansas City Chiefs are heading back to the AFC Championship game where they will host the Cincinatti Bengals and Joe Burrow.
Many were so quick to write off the Chiefs with their early and midseason woes this year… but, is the dynasty back on?
