The 10 seeded Miami Hurricanes knocked off the 2 seeded Auburn Tigers Sunday night in a shocker for Basketball fans across the country putting Miami into the Sweet 16.
Despite rebounding being a huge key to success for Auburn’s season and outrebounding the ‘Canes 49-37, scoring was the name of the game in this matchup with Auburn seemingly being unable to take the lid off the basket shooting a measly 30% from the floor to Miami’s 48% led by guards Isaiah Wong and Kameron McGusty. The two combined for 41 on the night which outpaced the entire Auburn starting 5 by 8 points.
This is only the 4th time in program history reaching the Sweet-16 at “the Big Dance” and have never made it to the Elite Eight, which they will be attempting to do against another red hot team in the Iowa State Cyclones who were the 11 seed coming into the tournament. The cyclones find themselves in the Sweet 16 after knocking off the 3 seeded Wisconsin.
Both teams feature guard centric play however, Iowa State features a more defensive heavy scheme to Miami’s very effective fast-paced offense. Does defense win championships? Or is a great offense the best defense? We will certainly find out this week in an insane year for college basketball.
